Every time fiscal liberals in Harrisburg tried to raise income taxes and spending, John stopped them - saving PA taxpayers billions of dollars. He helped make government spending more accountable and more transparent by creating the PennWatch website that lets taxpayers see how and where their tax dollars are being spent. John wrote a new law that reforms how Pennsylvania issues state debt, which will save taxpayers over $1 billion in coming years. John repeatedly voted for property tax reform, because too many seniors live in fear of losing their home to a tax they cannot afford to pay. John also stood up to the entrenched politicians and bureaucrats by passing public pension reform that shifts risk away from taxpayers and makes the system more like the private sector. Of course, John also refuses the state pension and perks himself!
John knows that making sure Pennsylvanians have the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families is one of the most important things he can do as our Representative. That's why he has fought against special interests to make Pennsylvania a better place to do business and raise a family. John supported key reforms to halt frivolous lawsuits and reform our state's onerous taxes on job creators. John also stood up to Governor Wolf's disastrous and unfair COVID shutdowns that closed too many businesses and put too many Pennsylvanians out of work. John worked to defeat Governor Wolf's proposal to increase the state income tax, and continues to press against the endless increase in government red tape employers face in this state.
John stood up to radicals who think defunding the police is a good idea. He has always supported our law enforcement community, making sure our State Police have the funding to recruit and train the best talent, and providing local communities with grants and funding to support safe streets for our kids. John also voted to create - then fund at record levels - Pennsylvania's School Safety Grant program that helps school districts implement the right plan for them to keep kids safe.
John knows that education is the foundation to a brighter future for all our children and that educational decisions are best made by parents - not by government, bureaucrats and special interests. As Representative, John worked to support all of our local schools, so parents can choose the best education for their children. John delivered record state funding for Avon Grove, Oxford, and Octorara School Districts. He has championed educational options for parents, including the Avon Grove Charter School and career and technical education. John also delivered record funding for choice initiatives in education to help all children but especially those trapped in consistently failing school districts.
John believes parents, not the government, should be in charge of a child's education. To that end, he authored bipartisan legislation that passed the House to rollback government mandates and give parents the right to opt-out of high-stakes testing for their children.
John has worked for years to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat - so all of us, regardless of political party, know our democracy is secure. He fought for Voter ID for years as well as efforts to clean up the state's voter registration database. John also supported a new law to ensure every vote is cast with a paper ballot rather than electronic touchscreens to ensure a paper trail if needed for recounts or to settle disputes.
As Representative, John has worked to ease the burden for working families and retired seniors. As Representative, John helped implement Pennsylvania's first Child Care Tax Credit. He also worked to provide more relief for PA residents through the successful Property Tax and Rent Rebate program - without raising taxes!
As State Representative, John doesn't just talk about reform, he leads by example. John refuses taxpayer-paid per diems, a state car, and does not participate in the defined-benefit pension plan. John passed historic pension reform for new employees and legislators - and supports moving all legislators into a 401-k type system - saving taxpayers billions of dollars in the long-term. He also supported the use of technology to increase transparency by making more documents, fiscal information, legislative information, and campaign finance information available to the public online.
As State Representative, John does more than vote on laws in Harrisburg - he fights every day for the needs of our local communities. John is leading the fight to protect the White Clay Creek Preserve/Elk Creek State Park - the same way he is leading efforts to stop the sale of the Chester Water Authority and protect ratepayers. He is working to bring emergency hospital services back to Jennersville Hospital to serve local residents. He led efforts to finally fix the Red Rose Inn intersection in Jennersville and is working with local officials to realign the Route 272 / Old Baltimore Pike intersection in Nottingham. Most importantly, John's office in Jennersville has helped resolve over 20,000 calls from our local community in the last two years alone, including helping hundreds navigate the state's broken unemployment compensation system.
